Encounter-specific Details, Actions and Tactics
The large muttadile rolls Stealth for initiative, and if it escapes notice, it will potentially Delay its first turn in hopes of someone moving close enough to be targeted by a Bite + Grab + Death Roll. It largely attempts to stay within the water, Hiding beneath the surface, and biting and grabbing creatures that move too close to enable its Death Roll. Otherwise it attempts to use Vomit Swarm to spread debuffs and damage, only exiting the water if other options seem significantly worse.
The small muttadile will attempt to fight the party in melee before running off to the meat tree when it reaches half health
It is possible to deplete the tree of decaying meat in the room by dealing damage to it. It has 24AC, +15 to Fortitude saves, and automatically fails Reflex saves. It also has object immunities and resistance 5 to all damage except axes. Every 10 points of damage dealt to it depletes one of its "uses" (as described in the Small Muttadile's Consume ability).
Too shallow to cause the underwater combat rules to come into effect, the pools of water in the room can be waded through as difficult terrain, or a character can Swim through them.
Creatures on opposite sides of the wall of foliage by the entranceway have standard cover from each other. This is suitable cover for the Hide and Take Cover actions.
Room Description/Flavor Text
The murky smells of stagnant water and rotting flesh quickly hit your nose as you continue. Peering through a dense wall of foliage obscuring the next room, the source of the stench becomes clear. A room lined with shallow, muddy pools of water, and a tree. Which appears to be made out of decaying, rancid flesh. A strange creature - with an unmistakable crocodile's snout and a stout, doglike body - is splashing around in one of the pools of water, before it notices you and growls.
If someone was Seeking in exploration and rolled a 30 on their Perception check:
You also spot a pair of eyes, *barely* peeking above the water line in that far pool of water. Watching. Following your every move.
